Jay-Z and His Daughter Blue Ivy Carter Make Chart History Together

‘The Lion King: The Gift’ scores big for the whole Carter family

July 31, 2019

The Lion King continues to roar in theaters, and it continues to reward the entire Carter family.

Beyoncé voices Nala in the live-action edition of the film that was once again number one at the box office this weekend, and she is also the producer of a companion album called, The Lion King: The Gift. The album features 14 new songs, inspired by the themes of the film and the land from which the story was born.

“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa” Beyoncé explained before the release. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa."

The Gift includes several new songs from Bey, along with appearances from Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Pharrell Williams. The singer also invites her family along, with husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy Carter both taking turns in the spotlight.

It’s a gift that keeps on giving for the Carters, helping Jay-Z and his daughter both make history on the charts this week.

The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard album chart, with a few of the songs entering the Hot 100. Among them is “MOOD 4 EVA,” which features Jay along with Beyoncé and Chilidish Gambino. Entering at number 90, the song marks the 100th time Jay-Z has been in the Hot 100.

The song makes Jay-Z one of only 6 artists who have scored 100 career solo visits to the Hot 100, joining Drake, Elvis Presley, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and the cast of GLEE. In the 23 years since his first, Hova has been number one 4 times. His longest stay was also with Beyoncé. The couple spent 8 weeks at number 1 in 2003 with “Crazy In Love.”

However, even with the major milestone, Jay got bested by his own daughter this week.

As Jay-Z hit 100, Blue Ivy Carter landed her first song on the Hot 100, entering the chart at number 76 with “BROWN SKIN GIRL.” Blue stars in the song along with her mother, SAINt JHN, and WizKid. The empowerment anthem also created the #BrownSkinGirlChallenge, with women sharing shots of their beauty.

Not to be outdone by all of this, mom Beyoncé currently has three songs on the chart at this time.

The Lion King: The Gift is now available everywhere, and The Lion King is in theaters now.
